Public Questions can be tabled at Lewisham’s full council meetings. There are some rules to follow to have a question placed on the order paper and these have been clarified through changes to the council’s constitution. Although these proved controversial, the new administration confirmed that they plan no further changes.
Presently, anyone who lives, works or studies in the borough can table up to two written questions per meeting. These questions must not exceed 100 words each.
Lewisham Council says: “If there is an issue you want the Council to look at, or an area where you believe we can make improvements, a public question is a good way to bring it to the Council’s attention. Your question may lead to an investigation or review of the issue you raise, and could be relevant to other residents affected by the same issue.”
The deadline for public question time in September 2026 falls quickly after the summer break on Tuesday, 8 September 2026 as the full Council meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 23 September 2026 at 7.30pm in the Civic Suite, Catford, SE6 4RU.
Lewisham Council officers will vet the questions in advance that is why there is a deadline to submit any question has been set at 11.59pm on the 15th day before the full Council meeting.
